Winter Break STEM

Our full-day, winter break STEM camps are designed for 1st to 6th graders.  Learn something new, get your hands dirty, and make some new friends that share a love for science or engineering!

WINTER BREAK STEM CAMP
(1ST - 6TH GRADES)​

Join us for a hands-on camp focused on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Campers are grouped by age and lessons are differentiated by ability. To comply with Virginia Law: Campers must be at least 6 years old at the start of the camp.

Dates:

• Session 1: Winter Mysteries and Myths (2-day), Dec 26-27, 2019 (Thurs-Fri) 
• Session 2: Winter Sports (4-day), Dec 30, 2019 - Jan 3, 2020 (Mon-Fri, no camp Wed, 1/1)

Camp Hours: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (*extended care before and after camp are available)

Winter Mysteries and Myths
SESSION 1: DEC 26-27 (THUR-FRI) 

Have you ever wondered what it was like to get a hands-on winter STEM experience? Join us for two days of winter mysteries and myths, and explore the science behind the season. Form ice crystals, make glaciers, and build an indestructible gingerbread house. Debunk other winter myths, such as “Is it possible to lift an iceberg?” In our computing lab, enjoy adventures on Code.org, then tackle engineering tasks in a winter-themed Minecraft Education Edition.

Winter Sports
SESSION 2: DEC 30, 2019 - JAN 3, 2020 (MON-FRI, no camp WED, 1/1)

Enter the exciting world of winter sports! Explore sports such as ski jumping, bobsledding, ice fishing, and ice skating in a STEM-filled week. Research the science behind friction on ice, construct a bobsled, and model ski jumps. You’ll experience action-packed labs filled with hands-on activities. In our computing lab, take on fun programming challenges on Code.org and use Minecraft Education Edition to explore arctic conditions.
