With the warming weather (we'll pretend it wasn't in the 30s this morning), the pace has really picked up! This week we have made progress on a number of fronts and instead of covering one topic, I'll provide a summary of what's going on in each of the areas of work.
Curriculum
Student Body
We completed our second round of admissions and have out sent notifications. Going forward, we will have rolling admissions. Additionally, on Tuesday, April 28, a few of the rising 7th graders will attend the U.S. Science and Engineering Festival X-STEM Symposium downtown, our first student event.
Faculty
We have been quite busy interviewing candidates for our various open teaching positions. This included a trip down to William and Mary for the School of Education Career Fair, where I had the opportunity to meet some really interesting people, both candidates and other recruiters. We are close to making some announcements on some key positions in the next week or two, so stay tuned!
Construction
We completed the bid process and have selected LF Jennings to complete the construction on the space. We had our kick-off meeting today and have planned the groundbreaking to be on Monday, May 18! Everything is progressing on schedule for our planned move-in date in August.
Curriculum
- Humanities: We have finalized the curriculum for Humanities for the first year, Foundations of U.S. History and Themes in U.S. History, as well as one of the humanities electives, Bringing the United Nations to Life.
- Art: We are excited to announce that our Art program will be led by The Art Station. Our students will be exposed to a variety of techniques and art media through a series of four 8-week units each year.
