Counseling

Our counseling services work to support students’ academic, emotional, and social developmental needs. We use a team approach and work to understand each child's unique needs.

Unique Needs of Gifted Students

Adolescence can be a difficult time to navigate emotionally, thanks to everything from hormonal changes and the still-developing adolescent brain to the real or perceived anxieties of looming adulthood. Add the inherent difficulties of being profoundly gifted and/or twice exceptional, and this difficulty can be magnified. We understand the unique needs of gifted children and adolescents and establish close relationships with each students, helping us to identify and respond to problems early.

Tiered, Adaptable Support

Teachers, counselors, and parents work together to help students if they struggle. We put together personalized academic and/or behavior plans as needed. Our approach to counseling is adaptable and tiered to scaffold students as needed:
  • Regular student check-ins on both academic and social-emotional well-being
  • Open communication with parents, faculty, and other specialists that the student and their family is working with
  • Confidential counseling by our professional psychologist that specializes in gifted and twice-exceptional learning needs
  • Accommodations for documented learning differences
  • A scaffolding approach that is carefully designed, implemented, then gradually phased out
  • Development of Student Improvement Plans
  • For academic needs, arranging additional tutoring during office hours
  • Referrals to outside support services or community resources, such as specialists and psychologists

Our multi-faceted and adaptive counseling program supports the well-being and success of our students.

Emotional Wellbeing

The emotional well-being of our students is just as important to us as their academic success, and we will do everything possible to make sure our students are taken care of at the emotional level.
