Ideaventions Academy features a world-class, advanced STEM-based curriculum focused on research and innovation, including full-year engineering and computer science beginning in 1st grade.

Our students have had success in a wide variety of learning experiences, resulting in increased student engagement and an emotional connection to their learning experience.

Through hands-on work, authentic research, independent projects, self-paced learning experiences, lively debates and discussions, students take what they learn in class and apply it to both real-world projects.

It's no wonder our students have earned the highest SAT and ACT scores in Virginia, and among the top few in the country.

Since our inception, 64% of eligible students have been recognized by the National Merit Corporation as Commended Scholars, Semi-Finalists, Finalists, or Scholars.

We also celebrate our National Hispanic Scholars and finalists for Presidential Scholar.

Humanities

On average, Ideaventions students read 26 books per year.  

• Junior named Finalist in New York Times Open Letter contest
• Senior finished top 15% in New York Times Tiny Memoir Contest
• Junior conducted research into fallen WW2 serviceman through George Washington University's Albert H. Small Normandy Institute’s Price of Freedom Program and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
• High School English students launched the Bang Bang Big Explosions and other lit things podcast.

Aerial Drone team (Upper School) in Bell Helicopter's AVR competition:

• 1st nationally (2024-25, 2023-24)

Aquatics Drone team (Middle School) in Sea Perch International Competition

• Two teams: Top 1% Worldwide (2024-25)

• 2022: 6th-grade won the national Planting Science Award and was commended for “serving as an example to future participants."

Math

On average, our 3rd-8th grade students have a grade equivalency 3.9 years above grade level in Math (based on Iowa Assessment).

Students complete Algebra by 8th grade (many in 6th or 7th grade). Most take post-AP Calculus before graduating.

100% participation of 4th-8th grade students participate in Math Olympiad, MATHCOUNTS, and Math Kangaroo with outstanding results:

We use the Iowa Exams as our standardized assessment as a way to measure progress towards college and career readiness. ​
