National Merit Awards

Since our inception, 64% of eligible students have been recognized by the National Merit Corporation as Commended Scholars, Semi-Finalists, Finalists, or Scholars.

We also celebrate our National Hispanic Scholars and finalists for Presidential Scholar.

Humanities

On average, our students read 26 books per year. Our Upper School students have:

  • Been named Finalist in New York Times Open Letter contest
  • Finished top 15% in New York Times Tiny Memoir Contest
  • Conducted research into fallen WW2 serviceman through George Washington University's Albert H. Small Normandy Institute’s Price of Freedom Program and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
  • Launched the Bang Bang Big Explosions and other lit things podcast.

Iowa Assessments

We annually use the Iowa Exams to measure progress towards college and career readiness. ​
2023 - 2024:
Complete Composite: 4.2 years above grade level
Science: 4.5 years above grade level
Social Studies: 4.1 years above grade level
Math: 3.9 years above grade level
Reading: 3.9 years above grade level
English/Language Arts: 4.4 years above grade level

Mathematics

On average, our 3rd-8th grade students have a grade equivalency 3.9 years above grade level in Math (based on Iowa Assessment). Students complete Algebra by 8th grade (many in 6th or 7th grade or earlier). Most take a Post-AP Calculus level course before graduating.

100% participation of 4th-8th grade students participate in Math Olympiad, MATHCOUNTS, and Math Kangaroo with outstanding results:

Science & Engineering

Our students begin Engineering & Computer Science starts in 1st grade. In Middle School, they progress to  Java & Python. Our Upper School curriculum begins  with AP Computer Science, and students who are interested in continuing this path, we offer several Post-AP level electives. They put their skills to use in many ways:

Aerial Drone team (Upper School) in Bell Helicopter's AVR competition:
  • 2025: 4th nationally 
  • 2024: 1st nationally
  • 2023: 1st nationally
  • 2022: 2nd nationally

Aquatics Drone team (Middle School) in Sea Perch International Competition
  • Top 1% Worldwide (2024-25) - 2 teams
  • Top 3% Worldwide  (2023-24) - 2 teams

 Northern Virginia Regional Science Fair
  • 2024: 11 awards
  • ​2023: 6 awards
  • 2022: 6th-grade won the national Planting Science Award and was commended for “serving as an example to future participants."

National Spanish Exams 

Students can begin high school Spanish as early as 6th grade and begin lessons in 1st grade. From 2020 - 2025, our students have excelled in the National Spanish Exams. Gold Medal = 96-100%; Silver Medal = 91%-95%:
  • 22 Gold Medals (Top 95%-100% percentile)
  • 31 Silver Medals (Top 85%-94% percentile
  • 19 Bronze Medals (Top 75%-84% percentile)
  • 17 Honorable Mentions (Top 50%-74% percentile)
One of our students was also the recipient of the 2024 NSE Senior Scholarship.
