Graduation Requirements
Ideaventions Academy’s graduation requirements are designed to ensure students complete a rigorous, well-balanced academic program that supports both depth in STEM and strong preparation in the humanities, while allowing for individual academic pathways.
Required Coursework
Most core academic courses are offered at Honors, AP, or Post-AP levels, depending on subject and student readiness. Students must complete an equivalent of 23 full-year courses (23 credits) comprised of the following:
- English: 4 years / 4 credits
- Math: 4 years / 4 credits (students must have taken Algebra I in 8th grade)
- Science: 4 years / 4 credits
- History: 3 years / 3 credits: 1 credit must be U.S. History and 1 credit must be World History
- Computer Science and Engineering: 1 year / 1 credit
- College-Level STEM Course, Research Project or Internship: 1 year / 1 credit
- Economics and Personal Finance: 1 year / 1 credit
- World Language: 2 years of the same language / 2 credits, although 4 years or more is strongly recommended
- Elective: 1 years / 1 credit which may include courses from any area
- Physical Education: 2 years / 2 credits
Science Coursework Distribution Requirement
To graduate, students at Ideaventions Academy must take a total of 4 years of science (4 credits) and the courses selected must be from at least two of the following three sciences:
The distribution requirement is designed to allow students flexibility in either pursuing a particular scientific field in depth or choosing to take a variety of science courses. As an example, a student who wanted depth could complete AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and then complete 2 more credit hours of advanced, post-AP studies and/or research in a particular topic. Alternatively, a student wanting breadth could complete Honors or AP-level work in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and one more science such as Astronomy or Environmental Science.
- Biology (Honors or AP Biology)
- Chemistry (Honors or AP Chemistry)
- Physics (Honors, AP Physics 1 or 2, or AP Physics C)

Non-Academic Course Requirements
Ideaventions Academy’s Physical Education requirement is designed to support student wellness and personal responsibility. Students pursue physical activity independently and outside of the academic day and submit a monthly activity log. Approved activities may include organized sports, training with a coach, or independent fitness pursuits.
