Mystery Solvers: Chemistry Lab |
A mystery is afoot! We will solve the mystery before time runs out? Using science as your tool, collect and analyze evidence in order to find the culprit. In the labs, use chemistry to reveal fingerprints, detect blood traces, and analyze mysterious substances left behind. Throughout our adventure, the mystery solvers will be introduced to crime scene investigation techniques that applies fundamental chemistry concepts. The detectives will learn about physical and chemical properties of matter, chemical reactions, and analytical chemistry. Each experiment will bring students one step closer to solving the crime! Computer Lab: Coding and Minecraft Education Edition Students will explore computer science using computational exercises from Code.org. In Minecraft Education Edition, work collaboratively engineering a detective headquarters and complete challenges. |

Wizarding and Witchcraft: The Chemistry of Magical Spells |
We let our imaginations take flight by becoming wizards and witches in-training. We are introduced to traditional chemistry and physics concepts through experimentation in a new and innovative curriculum. Activities involve photoluminescence, buoyancy, magnetism and lots more. For example, while we create our glowing “crystal” ball, we’ll learn the science behind it, too! Computer Lab: Coding and Minecraft Education Edition. Students will explore computer science using computational exercises from Code.org. In Minecraft Education Edition, work collaboratively to design and build. |

Physics of the Impossible: Star Wars to Mario |
Impossible? Many of the technologies we have today were once thought to be impossible. We'll examine technologies from popular movies, like Star Wars, or impossible feats from video games, like Mario. With breakthroughs in nanotechnology, physics, and genetic engineering, could some of these impossibilities become possible? Learn about these frontiers of science, then conduct hands-on investigations in chemistry, engineering, and physics that are inspired by the movies and video games we love. Observe the forces in a crash and acceleration due to gravity. Explore chemical reactions and model nanomaterials in this futuristic adventure that considers the impossible. Computer Lab: Coding and Minecraft Education Edition. Students will explore computer science using computational exercises from Code.org. In Minecraft Education Edition, work collaboratively to design and build a futuristic civilization. |

Strange Science: Slime, Illusions, and Oddities |
Odd things await in the lab! Don lab coats and goggles, then enter into our Strange Science Labs. Mix together concoctions that bubble, fizz, and ooze while you learn chemistry. Produce illusions that would mystify a magician using engineering and physics. Celebrate the strange substances and phenomena that can be created in the lab. The scientists will learn about chemical reactions, optics, and forces, as we measure, mix, and make strange science creations. Computer Lab: Coding and Minecraft Education Edition Students will explore computer science using computational exercises from Code.org. In Minecraft Education Edition, work collaboratively to learn about the building blocks of matter and combine elements into new compounds and items. |

Operation Spy |
Your mission: uncover the science behind the gadgets and methods used by top secret spies. The undercover adventure includes building our own spy gear, learning to make and break codes, and using science and technology to complete our secret missions. Learn electronics to create alarm systems, explore exotic places and cultures, practice the art of disguise and deception to fulfill secret missions. Explore electricity, GPS navigation, lasers, chemical reactions, and world cultures. Computer Lab: Coding and Minecraft Education Edition Students will explore computer science using computational exercises from Code.org. Martian Colony |
One day in the not too distant future, we may have a colony on Mars. What will it take? How can we survive and thrive in the intense environment of Mars? We'll investigate these questions in a science and engineering adventure where we imagine ourselves preparing for Mars and facing these challenges. The colonists will explore the mechanical engineering and biology of hydroponic growing systems, as well as construction of lightweight dome structures for living spaces. The Martian settlers will use materials on hand to invent and hack tools for our Martian base, as we also learn about the geology and atmosphere of Mars. As part of our journey, we'll learn about the past, current, and future missions to the Red Planet, as we form our own Martian colony! Computer Lab: Coding and Minecraft Education Edition. Students will explore computer science using computational exercises from Code.org. In Minecraft Education Edition, work collaboratively to design and build. |

FAQs
What happens if my child needs to be quarantined for the camp session? If your child needs to quarantine and is not able to attend camp for an extended period of time (the full week), please provide a doctor's note, and we will refund the prorated amount based on the time attended/missed. Due to the very hands-on nature of the program, we won't be able to have a concurrent virtual access to camp. Note: we will not be able to refund tuition for non-COVID illness, vacation, or other events. Of course, if there is a serious family issue, please call and speak with Mr. Ryan (co-founder).
Withdrawals and Refunds:
If you need to withdraw from a course, please send an email to office@ideaventionsacademy.org requesting the withdrawal. We will not process withdrawals from voicemails. Refunds minus the $100 non-refundable fee can be processed prior to June 1. After June 1, refunds minus the $100 non-refundable fee can be processed if we are able to fill the spot in the course. We appreciate your understanding, as this is a small program, and we make commitments to our faculty for their summer.
